Strong positioning is the difference between standing out from everyone else who what you do and getting lost in the ocean that is a crowded niche in the business world.
A website is a powerful tool in the business world, and it is a perfect tool to improve your positioning and bring more people to your company who to see you as an expert. It’s the place where customers can go to learn about a company, about a product. It’s a place where you can show people you’re the expert and the go-to person in your industry. It’s the perfect place to show your super powers.
There are a few things that you can do to improve the odds that people will start to see you as the expert you are. One of the best steps to take is to create a website that showcases your skills, your achievements, and your work.
1) Have a great “About” page.
The title of this page is misleading, as many Online Business owners will tell you an “About” page isn’t actually focused on you.
Sure, you can tell the reader a little bit, but learning about you isn’t the only thing they’re visiting this page for. A strong “About” page is more focused on your reader than on you or your company.
t’s one of the places where you have an opportunity help your potential client or customer connect with the benefits of working with you, or buying from you. It’s the perfect place to focus on making a genuine connection. Talk about your ideal client’s struggles, objectives, and desired outcomes. Show them how you handle these challenges in ways that others might not have thought of and tell those stories that show how you helped to move your customers toward their desired outcomes.
Tell your story, but don’t let it take over the page. You probably don’t want to tell the whole story, but give your audience members some background and something that will help them to connect with you on an emotional level.
2) Create a blog.
You have this strong experience, opinion, and a mass of factual information that all go back to your area of expertise. That’s great, but if you hide your knowledge away and don’t tell the world, then it doesn’t do you any good.
It might even cause some anguish, say if your business doesn’t progress as far or as fast as you would like. You need a platform where you can shine, show your knowledge, and prove (yes, prove) your expertise.
A blog or portfolio section on a website is a great way to lay all that out for the ideal customers and clients who might not know yet that you exist. Once you set this section up though, you can’t just ignore it. Always be planning for and updating the information on your website. Oh, and don’t let your blog be filled with something people can find just anywhere. Find an unusual angle related to your industry and raise your voice. Let your opinions be known.
3) Keep your branding consistent.
Consistent branding is as important to attracting clients as your about page and developing a platform to show off your work.
When you have a website that uses the same colors, fonts, and imagery as your social media helps with recognition. When people can easily recognize your branding, it creates a connection and builds on the ever-important “know-like-trust” thing that leads individuals to be comfortable purchasing from you.
If you have no idea where to start with branding consistency, do some research or reach out to an expert in branding who can help you develop that essential part of your business.
4) Add video content to your website.
Not everyone learns and remembers things well through reading. Some people are visual or auditory learners, and video content can reach those individuals more easily. Videos are becoming more popular and their use is more widespread.
Video content is memorable, and offers a unique opportunity for a potential client to get to know you, to see your personality without being in the same physical location as you. Video content doesn’t have to be long or even polished, but it should be focused and on message, consistent with your brand.
